  4. Classification is the arrangement of organisms into orderly groups based on their similarities
  5. Classification is also known as taxonomy
  6. Taxonomists are scientist that identify & name organisms
  7. 1st taxonomists, 2000 years ago: ARISTOTLE
  8. Standardized Naming:
  • Biomial nomenclature
  • Genus species
  • Latin/Greek
  • Italicized in print
  • CAPITALIZE GENUS, but not species
  • Underline when writing
  • EG: HOMO sapiens (PRINT)
